Universal Music Group (UMG), one of the titans of the music industry, has announced its decision to cease licensing its music to TikTok, following unsuccessful negotiations for a renewed contract.
This move comes as a significant blow to the popular video-sharing platform, with UMG’s decision set to take effect immediately after the expiration of their existing agreement on January 31st.
After more than a year of discussions between TikTok and UMG, the two parties failed to reach a consensus on a new contract. According to a spokesperson from UMG, the negotiations have officially concluded without an agreement in place.
